Social psychology is a popular course for psychology majors and minors. In my Social Psychology course, I help students understand social behaviors by applying social psychology theories and concepts to the real world. I want students to leave my class understanding how social psychology can help them understand the world around them.
I use a variety of methods in my class to promote learning (e.g., group activities, flipped classroom, lecture-based classes, video examples, think/pair/share). I also think critical thinking and research method skills are key in understanding social psychology. To help students understand methods more, I incorporate research methods throughout the semester by having students read/critique articles and come up with their own study ideas to answer common social psychology questions. I know not all of my students will get a PhD in social psychology, but my goal is to help all students become a better consumer of science.
